Herbs for Regulating Menstruation Cycles

Menstruation is a natural process of discharging blood and tissues from the uterus. It is a natural phenomenon that happens when the egg that is released from the ovaries does not get fertilized. This means that no pregnancy took place and the uterus is now getting ready for the next cycle. On the average cycle takes from 28 to 30 days, but this duration may differ amongst women depending upon their estrogen and progesterone levels.

Most women experience regular cycles, although their maybe some who would experience shorter irregularities in their menstrual cycles. This irregularity is caused by stress, irregular sleeping hours and general fatigue. When short-term irregularities in one cycle occur, it is not usually a cause of deep concern. The menstrual period usually goes back to regular ones if triggering factors are removed.

A long term irregular menstrual cycle maybe a sign of a more serious medical condition and in such cases women who have irregular periods for a long time should talk to their doctors especially if they experience heavy flows when they get their period accompanied by abnormal symptoms such as pain before or during the menstruation.

There are factors that can contribute to long-term irregular menstrual cycles aside from the more common triggering factors such as stress and some medications.
• The Levels of estrogen and progesterone can create a distraction in the normal cycle. This can be brought about by some medications or even toxins such as nicotine and too much of caffeine.
• Some women may be taking some blood thinners which can also affect the regular blood flow.
• Over consumption of alcohol can also affect the hormonal levels and can in turn upset the normal menstrual cycle.
• Other causes of irregular menstrual cycles are polycystic ovarian syndrome, chemotherapy, recent childbirth, breastfeeding, miscarriage, fibroids in the uterus, endometriosis, significant weight gain or even malnutrition.

If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, you need to consult your gynecologist to determine the cause of it. A physical examination is also necessary which may include a blood test or a biopsy test that can indicate whether the irregularity in your menstrual cycle is caused by a more serious disorder which may need surgery or other forms of healing methods to help you.
