“Ayurveda is increasingly sought after by patients suffering from Arthritis”

Arthritis- The Ayurvedic Perspective

Arthritis is a excruciative painful and degenerative condition marked by inflammation of the joints that causes stiffness and affliction. Arthritis is a condition which is caused by acquisition of ama and aggravation of vata (Ama is a toxic by-product of improper digestion and Vata governs all movements in the mind and body). This ama circulates in the whole body and deposits at the sites which are debilitating. According to Ayurveda, mostly pains are caused by the aggravation of vata (air) dosha. When ama deposits in the joints and consequently, there is aggravation of vata, it results in a disease called amavata. This amavata is arthritis. The Ayurveda suggests that arthritis is caused primarily by an excess of ama and lack of agni. This can be caused by poor digestion and a weakened colon, leading to accumulation of undigested food and waste matter. Furthermore, poor digestion causes toxins to accumulate in the body, and weakened colon allows the toxins to reach the joints.

How we treat arthritis?

“ We take a holistic and natural approach in providing natural treatments that are customized to individual requirements.”

We treat arthritis by stimulating the digestive fire, by suppressing the ama and by balancing and stabilizing vata in the body. This can be done by strengthening the alimentary canal and the metabolic pathway. This further ensures non- blockage of the circulatory system by impurities and their optimum performance. Thus, we emphasize on removing the ama from the joints, bringing it back to the colon and its complete elimination. For this, all we need to do is to clean colon.

How Ayurveda helps?

Depending on a person’s lifestyle, diet and emotional pattern, either vatta, pitta or kapha goes out of balance. Then the particular dosha slows down agni (digestive fire), resulting in the production of noxious, sticky by-product of inadequate digestion called ama. Vata, the main active dosha, brings the ama into the colon, and from there it travels through the system and lodges in the joints, giving rise to stiffness and pain i.e. characteristic of arthritis.
Ayurveda recommends general techniques for increasing the intensity of the digestive fire (agni) in order to burn up the toxins that are harming the body. In Ayurveda, emphasis are laid on improvement of the range of motion and enhancement of mobility. An Ayurvedicdiet can help reinforcing the digestive system, thus warding off the formation of ama. The nutritional plasma thus created, is pure and can be assimilated into the body completely and with ease. A healthy, balanced diet can also improves lubrication of the joints, thereby effectively preventing arthritis or degeneration of the joints.
